Ekiring Intensifies Training in India

Uganda’s top badminton player Edwin Ekiring has intensified his training in the Indian town of Chennai ahead of the London Olympics. Ekiring told URN on Monday night that his training has been intensive since he arrived in India two weeks ago and is looking forward to playing in one major tournament before heading to the Olympics.
 
Asked how he is looking forward to the Olympics yet he will be the only men’s player representing the whole African continent, Ekiring said he is ready for the challenge promising not disappoint. Also Africa’s top badminton player, Ekiring will be taking part in his second Olympic Games after disappointing in the Beijing Games four years ago.


Ekiring who has topped the African men’s singles charts for the whole year and is also ranked 103 in the world said he is in very good shape and can’t wait for the London Olympics.  The Uganda player who won silver at the 2011 All Africa Games in Mozambique said he hopes to become even a better player after the Olympics because he is going to face the world’s top cream.


Ekiring will rub shoulders with top seed Lee Chong Wei (Malaysia), Lin Dan and Chen Long from China, Peter Hoey Gade (Denmark), Sho Sasaki (Japan), Michael Lahnsteiner (Switzerland) and Portugal’s Martin Pedro. Apart from Ekiring, Uganda will also send athletes in field and track events and swimming. Uganda is also waiting for wildcards for a weightlifter, cyclist and tennis player Duncan Mugabe.
