President Yoweri Museveni has transferred Adjumani Resident District Commissioner  (RDC) Agnes Akello to Kole district after she was implicated in the plunder of Zoka forest.

Nahori Oya, who has been RDC in Kole district now takes over in Adjumani in a cross transfer. Both transfers take immediate effect according to Hajji Mayanja, the supervisor of RDCs in the country.

RDC Akello, Ojokuna Elayut, the Adjumani district police commander and Joseph Otim who is the Zoka forest supervisor have been accused of perpetuating illegal lumbering in the forest since December 2015. The trio strongly denies the claims.

Michael Mugisa, the Executive Director National Forestry Authority (NFA), has also suspended the defiant Otim.  

A scathing report of the fact finding mission that was conducted by a ministerial committee led by the Minister for Presidency Esther Mbayo implicated Otim and security agencies in the massive illegal lumbering in Zoka forest.

Stephen Galima, the NFA director conservation, who pitched camp in Zoka forest in September, says his assessment puts the colossal destruction caused in the forest at 70% meaning Zoka forest needs serious reforestation.

The RDC who has been unpredictable and suspicious of her surroundings since Zoka forest scandal was unearthed, issued intimidating statements at the 54th Independence Anniversary at Paridi stadium, threatening to unleash her deadly side on the people for mudslinging her. 

Before rising to the position of the RDC Agnes Akello, who hails from Ibuje Sub County in Apac district, was working with Saint Dominion Forex Bureau in Kampala. In 2011 she contested for Apac woman parliamentary seat on NRM ticket but narrowly to a UPC party candidate.

Elders and cultural leaders in Adjumani have vowed to pronounce deadly curses and invoke the spirits in Zoka to haunt all those responsible for disturbing their peace in order to deter those planning to cause future destruction'.

Zoka forest is the only rich and biologically diverse tropical high forest found in Northern Uganda, and also the only forest where the endemic flying squirrels' are found in Uganda.
