Iteso Cultural Leader, the Emorimor Augustine Lemukol Osuban, has disbanded a youth desk at Iteso Cultural Union-ICU over allegations of financial mismanagement by the youth leaders.

The desk, headed by Gabriel Opolot Ononge, reportedly initiated and conducted community fundraising claiming it had been commissioned by the Emormor in which over 100 million Uganda shillings was collected between June 2016 and February 2017.

Jonathan Maraka, the ICU spokesperson says the group has temporarily been banned from conducting the fundraising until the investigation is complete.

"The youth desk headed by Opolot has been conducting illegal fundraising where they collected huge sums of money from our loyal subjects claiming to be doing so on behalf of Papa Emorimor," Maraka said.

According to him, the group was claiming that they would use the money which they extorted from people to establish a vocational and technical school to offer free training to vulnerable and unemployed youth.

Paul Sande Emolot, the ICU Prime Minister says they conducted investigations and realised they could not account for over 100 million Uganda shillings. Emolot says they have formed a committee to conduct another detailed investigation.

Opolot denied conducting fundraising but accepted receipt of 100 million shillings saying they raised it from application charges from youth who wanted to go for vocational studies on Emorimor Education Scholarship fund.

But he did not specify how much was paid by each applicant, and the Prime Minister denied such scholarship being offered at the Union.

Michael Ekelot, a concerned subject was disappointed and described the act as corruption and abuse of office.

Currently, the youth office near the regional police offices on Serere Road has been put under lock and key pending further investigations.
