Seven families in Moroto town are stranded after they were evicted from their homes to pave way for the construction of Adeyo road. The families were evicted on Saturday last week by Moroto municipality in preparation for the construction of a two kilometer road stretch named after the late Prime Minister Cosmas Adyebo. The road connects Singila through Nakapelimen villages to Kitale quarters in Camp Swahili trading center.

Members of the affected families, who spoke to URN say they are starving and spending nights in the cold. Longole Lucia, a mother of seven says the moon has been on their side. She notes that when darkness resurfaces they may not have the capacity to keep their property. She says the family is finding it difficult to even prepare meals since all their saucepans were destroyed during the eviction exercise.

She appeals to the council authorities to find means of relocating them. Rose Ilukol, another resident says the council promised to resettle them way back in 2009 but nothing has been done. She says that the council has destroyed their homes and left them in the cold. Ilukol explains that currently the family does not have funds to rent a house or buy another piece of land.

She asks government to come to their rescue before the rains return in the next few weeks. Albino Lobong, the LC1 Chairperson Nakapelimen village says he has contacted the council authorities to discuss ways of resettling the families. He explains that children and mothers are freezing in the cold without food.

He says the weather is bad at night and characterized by strong dusty winds which may affects the lives of the affected families.
