She is currently admitted at Kabale regional referral hospital and receiving treatment for injuries she suffered during the assault. Hanifa Agaba was attacked by her husband Sheik Ahmed Bujara and his two sons from an earlier marriage.

The former Kabale district Kadhi Sheikh Ahmed Bujara has been arrested by police for assaulting his wife. Bujara reportedly attacked his wife with the help of his sons Umar Agaba and Juma Bujara.

Bujara was picked up by police from his home in Kamuganguzi sub-county with his sons on Sunday morning.

Ely Maate, the Kigezi region police spokesperson told URN on Sunday that the trio is being held at Kabale central Police station.

Bujara's wife Hanifa Agaba is currently admitted at Kabale regional referral hospital where she is undergoing emergency surgery after she lost consciousness during the attack.

A source within the family told URN that trouble between Bujara and his wife started after he connived with his sons and sold off family land allegedly to raise some money for Umar Agaba to start up a business. This didn’t go down well with Hanifa Agaba who accused her husband of impoverishing their family.

Angry, Bujara plotted with his sons and on Saturday night they attacked Hanifa and beat her up badly. They accused her of trying to sabotage the family's plans for development. Umar Agaba and Juma Bujara are children from the former Kadhi's first marriage. Hanifa is his second wife.

Sadik Kabagambe, a neighbor to the family says Muslim leaders in the area have long tried to settle matters between the former Kadhi and his wife but Bujara would tell them off saying they wanted to interfere in the private matters of his family.
