Excessive Loss of Blood Killed Besigye Standoff Victim

The postmortem report of the man who was shot during running battles between police and Dr Kizza Besigye's supporters in Kampala shows that his death was caused by excessive loss of blood. 

The report by the Police pathologist shows that the deceased, who has been identified as Emmanuel Nsubuga, had a ruptured vein resulting from a gunshot on his neck.

Nsubuga, a resident of Mityana was shot by unknown policemen as police stopped Dr Kizza Besigye from leading a procession to the city center before heading to Makerere University where he was due to address a public rally. Police said the procession would disrupt traffic flow and business.

Several other people sustained injuries during the standoff.

Meanwhile Police at Wandegeya is negotiating with the family of the deceased which was contacted to pick his body for burial. The family early today held a meeting with the Divisional Police Commander (DPC) Wandegeya Brian Ampaire. However they declined to talk to the media.

Police Deputy Spokesperson Polly Namaye says they are yet to establish the officer who used the gun in a reckless way.  She however adds that investigations are ongoing.

They earlier on released a statement signed by the Police Spokesperson Fred Enanga denying knowledge on the cause of Nsubuga's death.
