Ugandan side Express FC will be waiting to see which teams they will battle in the group stages of the 2013 Cecafa Kagame Club Championships which take place in Sudan from June 18 to July 2.

The draws for the event will be made today afternoon in Khartoum, Sudan. Although Express FC did not perform so well in the 2012/2013 Fufa Super League, failing to retain the trophy they won under Coach Sam Ssimbwa the previous season, they will have the chance to prove a point at the International stage.

The Council for East and Central Africa Football Associations (Cecafa) has however announced that El Merriekh and El Hilal, the top two Sudan sides that also featured in Champions League this season, will not be part of the competition. Cecafa Secretary General Nicholas Musonye was quoted by MTNFootball.com as saying the two clubs had internal issues with the Sudan Football Association and were left out.

Musonye said after inspecting facilities in Darfur and South Kordofan, the two States that will host the event, they are convinced of the readiness.

The tournament which is supported by Rwanda President Paul Kagame with prize money worth US$60,000 will have Tanzania’s Young Africans as the defending champions.

The teams to be drawn today include Express from Uganda, Tusker FC from Kenya, Rwanda’s APR FC, Ports FC of Djibouti, Simba SC from Tanzania, Burundi’s Vital’O, Falcons of Zanzibar and Elman from Somalia. Hosts Sudan are fielding two teams including Merriekh El Fasher and Al-Hilal Kaduugle, while South Sudan are sending Al Nasir.
