During interrogation at Luweero Police station, Captain Ali Idagiri insisted that he works with State House and executes missions for General Saleh.

Captain Ali Idagiri, a Uganda People's Defense Forces-UPDF soldier attached to the Chieftaincy of Mubende Rehabilitation Center is in trouble for impersonation. Idagiri was picked up this afternoon for passing off as an aide of General Salim Saleh, the presidential advisor on Military Affairs and threatening weighbridge staff in Luweero town council.

John Bosco Ssejemba, the head of Enforcement Uganda National Roads Authority-UNRA, says Captain Idagiri was arrested after he went to Luweero Weighbridge station two times and ordered staff to release two impounded trucks citing orders from General Saleh.

He says the trucks registration number UAW 593H and UAX 230Q had been impounded for carrying excess load on their way to Arua district from Kampala.

It is believed that Idagiri got some money from the truck drivers to help them secure the release of their trucks from the weighbridge station. The drivers later agreed to pay fines for the excess load and were released to continue with their journey.

During interrogation at Luweero Police station, Captain Ali Idagiri insisted that he works with State House and executes missions for General Saleh. He however, couldn't produce any documents to substantiate his claims save for the identity card from the Chieftaincy of Mubende Rehabilitation Center.

In a related development, Luweero police are holding Steven Odonga for impersonating UNRA Staff and extorting Shillings 200,000 from truck drivers to help them evade the weighbridge. Odonga reportedly collected money from the truck drivers to show them alternative routes they can use to avoid the weighbridge, where their trucks would be impounded for excess loading.

Paul Wataka, the Luweero District Police Commander says both Idagiri and Odonga are in custody at Luweero Central Police Station. He says the duo will be arraigned before the Chief Magistrate court to answer charges of impersonation and extortion.

In July last year, the Assistant Weighbridge Controller in charge of Luweero weighbridge station, Yosia Denga  told a Commission of Inquiry led by Justice Catherine Bamugemereire that security and top government officials were frustrating the prosecution of truck drivers arrested for violating the axle load limit.

He alleged that high ranking security and government officials order the release of trucks that are impounded for excess loading. Trucks with 6 axle wheels are expected to carry 18 tons while the 10 axle trailers are limited to 24 tons.
