FIFAs Nicola Luka has said they will keep close watch on Uganda if there is interference by government or not.

Manager of Associations at FIFA, Nicola Luka has warned that the world football governing body will keep close watch on Uganda if there is interference with football matters by government or not.

"We hope that FUFA will continue to be managed independently without interference because we want the autonomy of our Associations to be respected," added Luka after a meeting with government officials and FUFA at the Ministry of Education Board room in Kampala on Tuesday.

Luka and FIFA Legal Counsel Rolf Tanner were part of the meeting that decided that FUFA can go ahead and register to become a trustee. The Uganda FA was hesitant to register as a trustee fearing that Uganda could be suspended because becoming a trustee contravened the FIFA rules.

But Luka said that FIFA hopes that the FIFA principles should be observed and leave FUFA to run the football business. "We are going out of this meeting assured that there is no ground for government interference in FUFA matters," he added.

He said that within all their member Association different legal entities come into play if they are called to register as trustees, but maintained that the FIFA principles must always be respected with lots of independence.

FUFA has been asked to hand in their paper work to register as a trustee by August 10th. State Minister for Sports, Charles Bakkabulindi told URN that they have no hidden agenda to interfere with FUFA business.
