Fire has gutted Kalaki Sub County headquarters in Kaberamaido district.

The fire destroyed documents in the office of the sub-county chief, accounts office and a store where other sub-county documents were kept.

Richard Ojupa, the LCIII Chairperson Kalaki sub county says that the fire started at 1:00 am and also destroyed two computers and a mowing machine among others.

According to Ojupa, it is difficult to ascertain the cause of the fire, although he says that some councillors have not been in good books with the sub-county chief.

Michael Odongo, the East Kyoga region police spokesperson says a general inquiry file will be opened to ascertain the cause of the fire outbreak.

He said that the police have already seized a notice which was pinned on the wall by some of the councillors stating that they did want the sub county chief sacked or transferred.

In January 2006, Kaberamaido district headquarters was also set ablaze by unknown people who were never brought to book.

They also targeted the building that housed finance, internal audit, production and community development.

Kalaki will in July start operations as a new district.
