The drop in the price of Nile perch has raised concern among fishermen at Katosi landing site in Mukono district.

Fishermen blame the low price of Nile perch on Asian businessmen who determine the price of fish. Richard Kato and Godfrey Nyombi, say the Asians decided to cut the price of Nile perch because of increased supply.

Elisa Bbosa Mukasa, the senior secretary Katosi landing site committee, says many fishermen have decided to suspend their operations because of the low prices.

 
He says the fishermen incur huge expenses and can't continue operating at the prevailing price.

Bosco Lumumba, one of the managers of Fresh Perch that exports fish, says the Nile perch price has been affected by a drop of prices in Europe. He says the exporters are equally affected.

Currently, only three factories buy Nile perch following the closure of several others because of low fish stocks.
