Five Arrested Following Land Clashes

Five people including a UPDF soldier attached to Nakasongola army barracks have been arrested in Gulu following clash over a disputed piece of land. The incident occurred this morning at Pukwany, Gaya parish in Pabbo Sub County. Christopher Ojera, Pabbo Sub county LC III chairman identifies the suspects as Lt. JB Opio, Bosco Omal, Richard Ouma, Micheal Ocira and Tooroma. He says that trouble started when members of the family of Paul Acaye led by Opio attacked the family of Palaminyo using machetes and sticks. Ojera says that five people including Paul Acye, his son Emmanuel Giryema-lit Bosco Omal, Richard Ouma and Micheal Ocira were injured in the clash. Ojera says Acaye and his son Giryema-lit were rushed to Lacor health center III in Pabbo with serious injuries. He says the situation was contained by the anti-riot police who were immediately called in to intervene in the clashes. Ojera says that police have mounted a search for seven other suspects who are still at large. Justino Ovuru, Amuru district police commander says that police tightened security in the area to avert any further clashes.
