Floods Hit Kyesiga Sub county

Over 200 people in six villages in Kyesiiga Sub County in Masaka district are crying foul following a heavy down pour that left the area flooded. The incident occurred on Tuesday evening. The most affected villages are Kitunga” A”, Buliiro, Mweruka, Buliiro “B”, Kitunga “B” and Bigga amongst others.
 
Mudathiru Bbaale, the LC 3 councilor for Persons with disabilities says the downpour, which lasted for three hours destroyed more than 65 houses leaving several families homeless. He says the rain also washed away gardens of maize, beans and cassava, which is the main staple food in the sub county raising fears of food security.
 
Bbaale identifies some of the residents who were affected by the floods as Mary Nakiyiimba, Paulo Mawuka, Saulo Magoogwa, Moses Nsubuga, and Justine Namata. He appeals for the intervention of Edward Ssekandi Kiwanuka, the vice president who also doubles as the Bukoto Central MP and Masaka district woman MP Fridah Kasse Mubanda.
 
Abdu Nsubuga, the LC III chairperson Kyesiiga sub county says most of the roads in the sub county have become unmotorable due to the flooding. Nsubuga says they are still assessing the damage before they can submit a report to the relevant authorities for intervention. He appeals to the disaster preparedness and refugees ministry to come to the aid of his electorate since they lost all their food. Nsubuga says the same area was hit recently by hail storms.
