Vincent Semakula Ssetuba, the former Rakai District Chairperson is dead.

Semakula, a prominent politician in the greater Masaka sub-region, served as Rakai district chairperson between to 2001 to 2011 before he was appointed Presidential Advisor on Local Government, a position he resigned in 2016 to contest for the Kakuuto County parliamentary seat.

He was recently appointed to the board of the Micro-finance Support Centre but had not settled into office over the illness. Semakula was announced dead this morning at Nsambya hospital in Kampala where he was admitted with cancer.

Kyotera District Chairperson Patrick Kintu Kisekulo, who has been one of the deceased's confidants, explains that the Semakula was taken to Nsambya on Sunday following President Museveni's intervention to procure expert medication for him.

He explains that he was initially receiving treatment from Platinum medical Centre in Kampala until the president learnt of his condition on Saturday when he visited Kyotera district last Saturday.

Kisekulo told URN that the President's office was still working on modalities of taking him abroad for further treatment.
