Fort-Portal Cop Arrested Over Bribe

The Kamwenge district Traffic officer has been arrested for bribery. Charles Muherema was caught red-handed this morning receiving a 100,000 shilling bribe from a lorry driver. Elly Mate, the western region police public relations officer, says that the traffic officer intercepted a Lorry which was not only in dangerous mechanical condition but also too overloaded. The traffic officer then ordered the driver to divert the lorry to a petrol station from where he negotiated a bribe. However some police officer in civilian clothes got wind of the deal and found the traffic officer receiving the bribe from the driver. Muherema was immediately arrested and taken to fort portal police station. Matte says Muherema will face the police disciplinary committee and also risks dismissal from the police force. According to Matte, police in Kamwenge have received several complaints by drivers protesting against Muherema's habit of extorting money from them.
