Four people have been confirmed dead in a Monday morning road accident along Iganga-Jinja road.

The accident happened at Musita trading center in Baitambogwe Sub County, in Iganga district.

According to eyewitnesses, the accident occurred when an over-speeding coaster registration number UAF 337 Z commuting from Iganga to Jinja rammed into a Tata truck number UAD 041Y killing three passengers on spot. Another unidentified man died on arrival at Jinja regional referral hospital.

The Tata lorry driver reportedly turned without indicating, thus confusing the coaster driver.

The dead, who had not yet been identified by press time, were taken to Iganga hospital Mortuary, while injured were rushed to different hospitals and clinics in Iganga and Jinja towns.

The south eastern regional traffic officer, Washington Labejja says reckless driving was behind the accident and cautioned road users against being careless.

Labejja says police could not readily establish those injured because they had been taken away by the time police arrived at the scene of accident.

The accident follows another one in Lwengo along Masaka road on Sunday, which left three people dead and 16 others injured. The dead included a Radio One journalist, Henry Ssemwanga.
