Lawyer: Gashumba May Appear in Court Tomorrow

Frank Gashumba is likely to appear in court on Thursday, according to his lawyer. Denis Nyombi told URN this evening that he has been asked to prepare because investigations are complete and his client may appear in court tomorrow.

Gashumba was detained at the Kireka based Special Investigations Division headquarters on Tuesday for alleged impersonation and obtaining money by false pretense.  

Following his arrest, operatives from the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI) searched Gashumba's home in Bunga and the Sisimuka Uganda offices in industrial area where they recovered several items including more than 20 stamps including one from the Defence and Veteran Affairs Ministry, multiple identification documents and two passports belonging to the suspect with varying names.

   They recovered a passport NO B0892687 belonging to Frank Gashumba in the names of Ssentogo Frank Disans. Another search conducted at Gashumba's office yielded a second passport no B0958085 in the of Gashumba Franco Malimungu, several other stamps and documents authored in the names of the  Defense Ministry and Agriculture Fisheries and Animal Industry Ministry.
This morning, the operatives picked up Gashumba from Kireka and drove him to his home in Bunga and his offices in Industrial where they conducted another search. URN was unable to establish what the operatives found or where looking for in the second search.

In a statement issued on Tuesday evening, the Defense Ministry Deputy Spokesperson, Lt. Col. Deo Akiiki, said Gashumba was picked up together with his brother, Innocent Kasumba following a whistle blowers report to the Defense Ministry Permanent Secretary about their plan to fleece an investor pretending to be Defense Ministry officials.

According to Lt. Col. Akiiki, the duo invited investors to Golden Tulip Hotel in Nakasero in Kampala for a meeting through their company Flagship group claiming to have been contracted by the Defense Ministry to supply the army hundreds of Military Trucks.

He explained that following the tip off, operatives from the Joint Anti-Terrorism Taskforce-JATT picked up Nasser Mukungu, an accomplice to Kasumba who fled from the hotel. 

He says they opened up a case file against the group vide CPS KLA CRB1456/2017 and  Nasser Mukungu was granted police bond as the search for Kasumba continued.
Kasumba was finally picked up on October 29th, 2017 and search conducted on his residency, which yielded the recovered the exhibits.  

He said Gahsumba turned up at the Chieftainance of Military Intelligence-CMI on October 29th with his lawyer friend Godfrey Nsamba to follow up his brother and was arrested to explain the reason and source of multiple identification documents under his name, his relationship and role in Flagship group under, which the investor was to be defrauded.
