He said apart from the disappointment, the 2012 London Games have helped Uganda get experience. Galabuzi, also Chairman of the Uganda table Tennis Association (UTTA), explained that since it was a team effort, even the athletes who toiled and did not win should be recognized and talked about.

He said people in Uganda are only patriotic when there is victory and extremely negative when there isn’t any.  Galabuzi cautioned against the tendency of trying to reap where Ugandans have not sown.

The UOC official however refused to comment on badminton player Edwin Ekiring’s communication with this reporter yesterday that UOC had refused to help his European coach get accreditation and also for his foster parents to get parent tickets for the Games. He said he would need to first speak to the player.

The badminton player, who represented the country and was the only male African player in the sport at the Olympics, told URN on phone from his base in Holland on Tuesday that he was very angry that UOC failed to help him get his professional coach accreditation and his foster parents’ tickets yet Ekiring had requested a month in advance.

Team captain Ganzi Mugula was also very happy that although he had not won a medal in swimming, he has made history by leading a team that has brought back one gold medal after 40 years.
