Gen Ivan Koreta's Escort Killed in Amuru

A member of the bodyguards of Lieutenant General Ivan Koreta, the deputy commander of the Land Forces, has been shot dead in Amuru district. He was cornered by a force sent to track him after he fled from allegations of rape and desertion. Private Tyson Okidi, was deployed to escort Ivan Koreta to attend the funeral of Agard Didi, the former minister for northern Uganda. He is alleged to have driven his boss's car without authority which he damaged. He fled in fear of punishment. Ronald Kakurungu, the fourth division spokesman says that Okidi's troubles increased when he allegedly raped a woman at gun point near Ayugi Bridge, in Atiak Sub County. The army mounted a search for him in the Atiak area following tip offs from residents. The army spokesperson says the team deployed to search for Okidi shot him when he fired at them. In a related incident, two soldiers have been arrested for shooting a civilian at Akwera village, Atiak Sub County in Amuru district. Peter Ojear, a local council official of the area said Ocuc Oryema was returning to his home in Kitgum when the soldiers shot him. The motive of the killing is unknown. Fourth division spokesman, Ronald Kakurungu says the soldiers claim they shot at Ocuc after he fled from them on site.
