A seven year old girl in Alito Sub County in Kole district is nursing wounds she sustained after she was tortured and thrown into a pit latrine by a woman whose baby she was taking care of.

Oliver Amuge, who is currently admitted at Ogur Health Centre, was reportedly tortured, and subsequently thrown in a pit latrine on Tuesday afternoon by Jennifer Obong.

She was rushed to the health centre on Wednesday afternoon after she was retrieved from the toilet in use by the neighbours. It is said Amuge spent more than 16 hours in the pit.

The girl's eyes, nose and genitals had already been infiltrated by maggots. When a URN reporter visited her at Ogur Health Centre, she could neither see, nor eat because of the wounds.

Angello Awero, a neighbour to Amuge's home alerted the local council officials after one of the family members who had gone to defecate heard her crying from inside the toilet.

Richard Otim, Awiro village Local Council chairperson says he had referred the matter to Ayara Outpost in Alito Sub for further management.

Otim says the child was accused of buying cooking oil worth 1,000/= yet she had been told buy that of 400 shillings.

Morris Okello, the girl's uncle, says child torture and attempted murder cases have already been opened against the woman.

Mansur Suwed, Central North regional police spokesperson, when contacted on Thursday evening, could neither deny nor accept. He said he would travel to Alito Sub County on Friday to follow up the issues before commenting.
