Mayoral candidate Elias Lukwago is crying foul after his billboards were systematically defaced with a yet unidentified chemical.
The billboards installed at Namirembe near the Cathedral, Nankulabye, Luzira, Kitintale, Kibuli, Nakawa, Ndeeba, Katwe, Ntinda, Kireka and other parts of Kampala all lost colour and Lukwago's picture leaving just the words printed on them.
Lukwago, who was close to tears, told journalists said he has been moving around the city to check the damaged billboards and vowed that he will not be intimidated by acts of hooliganism.
He said early this morning he received phone calls that his billboards had been defaced with two of them carried to the entrance of his office at London Chambers in the city centre.
Lukwago said he has been tipped that a car, Pajero short chassis registration number UAN 078G, had been seen around 4:00 am moving around the city carrying occupants who are suspected to be behind the defacing of his billboards.
//Cue in..Almost all of them.
Cue out...were doing this."
Lukwago says the damaged billboards cost him about 25 million shillings and urges his opponents or whoever is responsible for the act to exercise fairness and remain civil.
The Criminal Investigations Department officer Nangeye Wilfred says the police are carrying out investigations into the matter.
