Survivors of the Bulambuli landslides spent Monday night in the cold without food and water.

The survivors, whose homes were destroyed by the mudslides that killed thirty people from Kimuli and Bulegenyi villages, have so far not received any kind of assistance from government or non-governmental organizations.

The victims who number 1,548 people have taken refuge among relatives and in the nearby Kibanda trading center.

By 1pm on Tuesday, the food that had been promised by the office of the prime minister had not yet arrived.

Rose Mary Nakaunde, a victim who has taken refuge at Kibanda trading center says she has not been able to provide a meal to her three children, who are all under ten years. She explains that she lost everything in the mudslide.

George Wamala, the Bulambuli District Vice Chairperson says government should immediately provide food to the victims who were rendered homeless by the Monday morning landslide. He says the most urgent need is food and tents.

Government has also not provided the coffins and money for burial expenses that it had announced it would give to the victims.

Wamoto Nabende, the Bulambuli Resident District Commissioner said government will fulfill the promise of providing coffins and covering burial expenses.

However, by 2pm most of the victims had already been buried.
