The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has released a hotline for Ugandans trapped in South Sudan following the resurgence of fighting in the capital Juba.

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Henry Okello Oryem says the hotline +211 9283 020 44 will help citizens in different parts of the country to seek consular services and support. The number is available for call, text of WhatsApp.

The hotline came moments after government ordered the evacuation, by road, of Ugandan citizens trapped in South Sudan from Nisitu, an area located east of the River Nile. The evacuation will be undertaken by the Uganda Peoples Defence Forces.

Initial reports indicated that up to five Ugandans were killed and hundreds remain trapped in the fighting between troops loyal to President Salva Kiir and First Vice-President Riek Machar. The fighting has claimed over 300 lives in a space of five days.

Trade Minister Amelia Kyambadde told journalists at the Government media centre that government has availed funding to the Ugandan Embassy in South Sudan to protect and feed Ugandans.
