Gov't Tasks Cultural Leaders to Promote Peace, Unity

President, Yoweri Museveni has tasked traditional and cultural leaders to concentrate on promoting peace and unity among their subjects.
 

This was contained a message read for him by the Prime Minister, Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda during the 5th Iteso Heritage day held at Soroti Sports ground on Saturday.

 
In the speech, Museveni noted that traditional and cultural leaders can play a crucial role in enhancing the security.

He congratulated people of Teso for demonstrating support and love for their cultural heritage and donated Shillings 50 million to the Iteso Cultural Union. 




The annual Teso Heritage day is brings together all the Ateker people commonly known as the Nilotics like Iteso from Uganda /Kenya, Turkana from Kenya, Toposa from South Sudan, and the Nyangatom from Ethiopia (Abisinia).

He warned them against engaging in conflict, saying it is destructive. 



Paul Sande Emolo, the Prime Minister Iteso Cultural Union, says this year's celebration was meant to boost their ties for trade with the other community members in the neighboring countries.
