Gunfire rocked Ngarama Sub County in Bukanga Isingiro district this morning during protests by residents against the results of the just concluded NRM primary election. It all started after Robert Baingana, the Ngarama Sub County NRM registrar declared Silver Kiiza the winner of the Ngarama Sub County NRM party ticket.

This didn't go down well with his rival Benon Matsiko. He accused the registrar of falsifying the results to declare Kiiza winner yet he had trounced him by polling 4377 votes against his 3930 votes. As a result, Matsiko mobilised his supporters to demand an explanation why he had declared different results from what he garnered in the polls.

Baingana decided to block Matsiko and his supporters from accessing the tally center leading to clashes. They destroyed voting materials including Party T-shirts, yellow membership cards and cups. As a result, Police opened live bullets in an attempt to disperse the residents but they stood their ground demanding to see the registrar.

It took the intervention of Demeanor Turyatunga, the Deputy Isingiro Resident District Commissioner to calm down the residents. He also said they would accountable the Police officers involved in the shooting as they try to find a solution to address the concern of the residents.
