The deployment which includes both convert and uniformed operatives covers the Namboole stadium as well as surrounding areas.

At the stadium alone, about 500 police officers from the General police, traffic, Very Important Person Police (VIPPU), Counter terrorism police and Field Force Police have been deployed.

The military has stationed two trucks along the road to the stadium in addition to a tear gas tanker, two police trucks and three patrol vehicles.

Foot patrols from both the police and army have also been deployed along the Northern by pass, which leads to the stadium and surrounding areas.

Unlike in the usual deployment, where only one police man in a group of twelve foot patrollers is armed, all policemen deployed today are carrying Submachine guns (SMGs).

Entry into the stadium is restricted to only accredited delegates but they are not allowed to get in with mobile phones or any luggage.

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Gen Kale Kayihura on Saturday told the press that police had received intelligence information indicating plans for demonstration in the city, Illegal assembly by the Poor Youth brotherhood and other groups as well as plans to poison food of delegates.

Kayihura says a number of people whose identities cannot be revealed because it would compromise investigations, have been arrested and are helping corroborate the intelligence gathered.
