Hoima District Mayoral Looser Refuses to Concede Defeat

David Maxwell Kaboyo, a loser in the Hoima Municipality Mayoral contest has declined to concede defeat and accused his two rivals of vote buying and ferrying of voters. Kaboyo trailed last in the Wednesday Mayoral results. Speaking to journalists in Hoima town, Kaboyo accused the NRM candidate Mary Mugasa, of buying voters and stuffing ballots in boxes through party district officials. He declined to name any party officials he accuses of involvement in vote rigging. Appearing visibly frustrated after the loss Kaboyo who is also the NRM Chairperson for Hoima Municipality alleges that Mugasa's camp was buying voters for between 2,000 and 5,000 shillings to cast their ballot in her favor. Kaboyo also lashed out at party officials in the district for green lighting what he calls massive rigging of the polls. He says he will not concede defeat at all, given the manner in which the exercise was conducted. Kaboyo garnered 3,743 votes, trailing the winner Mary Mugasa by a margin of over 6,000 votes. Mugasa polled 9,657 votes while incumbent Acting Mayor Francis Atugonza had 7,601 votes. Kaboyo also accuses Atugonza of ferrying voters from Kampala to vote for him in the name of FDC election monitors. The independent candidate says he is consulting his supporters on the next course of action. Cue in "it's unfortunate..." Cue out "action to take..." NRM party officials in the district are already happy about Mugasa's Victory. Henry Muganwa Kajura Hoima Municipality MP elect and also district party Chairman last evening congratulated Mugasa and all NRM members up on what he called victory against FDC in Hoima Municipality. This was contained in a message read for him by his political aide Shaban Kwebiiha. Francis Atugonza has since declined to accord journalists any interview about the election saying he was still consulting.
