Police Bust Gang of Counterfeit Dealers

Hoima Police are holding six dealers of counterfeit currency and millions in fake currency notes.  The suspects were picked up from various locations in Hoima beginning on Sunday last week. 

Apollo Kateeba, the Albert Region Police Commander has only disclosed the identity of the ring leader as Wilson Mugume, a resident of Kiryatete in Hoima Municipality. According to Kateeba, they are still hunting for his other accomplices, adding that divulging details could affect their operations. 

Kateeba says one of the suspects was picked up from Jinja town, while the others were arrested from Kiryatete. Kateeba explains that Mugume has been minting the counterfeits from his home in Kiryatete and has a network of people who have been helping him to circulate the money in various parts of the country and abroad.

Police also recovered the machine Mugume and his group, have been using to mint the fake money. Kateeba reveals that the suspects will be charged with dealing and being in possession of counterfeits, once investigations are complete.
