Police in Hoima is holding one of its own, Corporal Stephen Tembo for stealing a Police motorcycle.

Tembo, an officer attached to Albert region Police headquarters reportedly stole the motorcycle XL Honda registration number UP-1817 early last month from a parking lot in Hoima town and hid it in a garage at Duhaga Roundabout in Hoima Municipality.

His luck however ran out when officers from the Inspectorate of Government found him selling off the motorcycle to one Julius Kyomuhendo on Thursday evening, Albert Regional Police Commander Charles Ssebambulidde says.

Tembo had already received 1.5 million Shillings out of the total bill of 2million Shillings he expected from the buyer.  A sale agreement seen by Uganda Radio Network shows that Tembo impersonated as Ivan Bogere, another police officer attached to the Field Force Unit in Hoima.

Tembo was arrested together with two of his accomplices, Julius Muhindo who was keeping the motorcycle in his garage and Dan Mbusa, a mechanic.

The trio is currently detained at Hoima police station. Ssebambulidde says the police officer will be charged with impersonation, theft and abuse of office, while his accomplices will face theft charges.
