Uganda's men Volleyball team put up a spirited fight last night, but eventually lost 3-2 to hosts Rwanda in the on-going All Africa Games qualifier in Kigali.
Uganda took a shock 2-0 lead 25-19, 25-23 at the Amahoro Indoor Stadium, before the hosts fought back strongly to level the games and eventually win.
The trio of Yakan Lawrence, Olivier Ntagengwa and Vincent Dusabimana failed to match the blocks of Ugandan captain Dickens Otim and George Aporo in the first two sets, something that sent the local fans in Kigali into silence.
However Paul Bitok's half time team talk seemed to work some magic as a rejuvenated national team buoyed by a mammoth crowd fought back to win the last two sets (25-23, 25-15 ) thereby sending the tie into extra time which Rwanda won 15-13.
In the other game, Kenya thrashed Burundi 3-0 (25-14, second set 25-12, 25-20).
Uganda's team will return to action on Sunday against Kenya in the first match before Rwanda takes on Burundi later in the evening. Th best team will join Egypt to qualify for the 2015 All Africa Games slated for September in Congo Brazzaville.
