Uganda She Cranes beat Zimbabwe 61-45 in a 2017 Africa Netball Championship match played on Wednesday at the MTN Arena, Lugogo.

The hosts closed in on the title after registering their fourth straight win in the competition.

Zimbabwe who have registered two wins in the competition started the game with a high defensive approach to keep the score at 16-8 after the first quarter. But the hosts made sure they continued running rings around the Zimbabwe team to lead 32-22 at half time.

Skipper Peace Proscovia, who also plays professional Netball in England together with Halima Nakachwa and Racheal Nanyonga were the key players for the She Cranes.

After the third quarter the She Cranes took a 46-35 lead before giving the Zimbabwe team no chance in the last quarter to win 61-45. "I am happy that my players have remained focused since the tournament started on Saturday. Zimbabwe was a tough team, but we unlocked their defending abilities," said coach Vincent Kiwanuka.

After four straight wins Uganda leads the table with eight points before they face Zambia on Thursday in the last game. The She Cranes opened their campaign with a 72-29 win over Botswana last Saturday before stopping Namibia 69-31 on Sunday. On Monday they defeated the highly ranked Malawi Queens (sixth in the world ranking) 66-43.

The Africa Netball Championship has attracted Zimbabwe, Botswana, Namibia, Malawi, Zambia and hosts Uganda.
