Kickboxer Patricia Apolot has promised not to fight for Uganda again because of lack of support from authorities.

"I am tired of holding the national flag high at world events when the country cannot support me," said a bitter Apolot during an interview with URN.

Apolot who is ranked top in the world lightweight category said she will not carry the Ugandan flag on April 6th when she fights in Hungary.

She explained that the government of Uganda has made several empty promises to her.

"They even promised to put me on the list of performing athletes who get monthly stipends from the government and this has not happened," she said.

Top Ugandan athletes who win medals at international competitions like Olympic gold medalist Stephen Kiprotich and Moses Kiprop are among the athletes who get the monthly stipend from government for their past good performances.

" I have worked so hard to stay at the top and will be looking forward for greater things this season even without government help," she added.

Last year Apolot won the world title after defeating Serbia's Ivana Mirkov in a continental title fight. The Ugandan has been ranked top in the women's lightweight category by the World Kickboxing Federation since July last year.
