Prime Minister, Amama Mbabazi says he will relinquish the NRM Secretary General job in order to concentrate on his new position as coordinator of all government activities.

Mbabazi, who currently doubles as Prime Minister as well as the ruling Party’s Secretary general, says the two jobs are demanding for one to meet set goals.

Mbabazi previously served as security minister as well as Secretary General. Some of his supporters believe he should continue holding the two positions.

Members of the NRM caucus in Parliament during a recent meeting with President Museveni at State House Entebbe, asked Mbabazi to relinquish the post of secretary General.

MPs were of the view that the job of secretary General requires someone who can devote more time to it, which Mbabazi can’t with his new role as prime minister.

Mbabazi told journalists at his personal office in Kampala today that he is ready to leave but can not resign when the party has not discussed on how fill the vacuum.

He did not however reveal when and which NRM organ would meet to have a new secretary general in place.

Mbabazi won the NRM’s top job almost a year ago after defeating former Vice President Gilbert Bukenya, justice minister Major General Kahinda Otaffire and Elijah Mushemeza, a university professor.
