Ibanda North Parliamentary Candidate Goes Missing

Police in Ibanda are investigating the disappearance of Alex Byaruhanga, the Forum for Democratic Change party candidate, for the Ibanda South parliamentary seat. Byaruhanga reportedly went missing on Monday.

Denis Ochama, the Ibanda District Police Commander, says he received a report about the disappearance of Byaruhanga from his neighbors in Kitwe cell in Ibanda town council on Wednesday evening.

"Yes we have received the information about his disappearance and we are investigating to find his whereabouts" Ochama said on phone.  On Wednesday, Police searched Byaruhanga's room and found his property intact.

Byaruhanga was a key mobiliser for the successful FDC campaign rallies in Ibanda district last week. Donald Murigye, the Ibanda district FDC party chairperson says Byaruhanga's disappearance could have been orchestrated to weaken him politically.  "He has been receiving threatening messages of recent. He informed us about the threat," said Murigye.

He however, couldn't tell the nature of threats and who was behind them. Byaruhanga is contesting against Engineer John Byabagambi, the incumbent Ibanda North Member of parliament and Peter Takahikire, an independent candidate

Who is Byaruhanga Alex?
He is a son to Francis Byaruhanga and Leovitas Byaruhanga, both residents of Kyeikucu cell in Ibanda town council. He is the former National Secretary for FDC University Students forum at Uganda Pentecostal University, where he is has been pursuing a law degree.

He attended Ibanda Demonstration primary school, Kagongo Secondary School and Kitagwenda High school for his Ordinary and Advance Certificate of Education respectively.


He has been attending internship at Ibanda Magistrate courts after completing a certificate in legal practice from Institute of Legal practice and Development in Rwanda.
