The International Criminal Court (ICC) criminal court Prosecutor could introduce fresh charges against former Lords Resistance Army rebel leader, Dominic Ongwen.

A lawyer representing the Court's prosecutor, Fatou Bensouda, reportedly said the  prosecution will amend the charge sheet to introduce new charges against Ongwen.

The prosecution as well wants expand the places where Dominic Ongwen is believed to have participated in massacres while still in LRA command.

Ongweni is currently charged with atrocities linked to the attacks on former Internally Displaced person's camp in Lukodi.
The developments are part of outcomes of the status conference at which Dominic Ongwen's lawyers and lawyers from prosecutor's office met to brief the court's judge, Cuno Jakob Tarfusser.

At the conference , the judge was briefed about  what is likely to part of the prosecution evidence and what Ongweni's lawyer will submit in his defense when his trial begins.

Ongweni's lawyer Krispus Ayena Odong was quoted by the Hague-based Justice HUB online publication saying Ongwen will plead not guilty to the charges when his trial begins later this year.

Ayena said he was surprised that the Pajule incident was coming up. He said his team can go to Pajule to find out what happened there, adding there could witnesses and potential victims too.

The publication without providing further details seemingly indicated that Dominic Ongwen's charges will be expanded to include atrocities on Pajule. The LRA attack on Pajule left several civilians dead, their houses burnt and abductions.

Maria Mabinty Kamara, International Criminal Court' s Outreach Coordinator to Uganda and Kenya in an interview confirmed that the Prosecutor's office will apply to amend the charge  sheet in to introduce new charges.

She however says it was premature to guess which new charges will be presented. Kamara said she was not whether the attacks on Pajule will be part of the fresh charges adding that it is possible that Ayena Odong came across a document about Pajule.

Ongwen who was captured earlier in January by the Seleka militia was handed over to the African Union Regional Task Force against the LRA which in turn handed him over to the ICC in Central African Republic.
