Three people have died on the spot and four others are admitted at Iganga Hospital this afternoon after an accident in Nakalama village on the Iganga - Tirinyi Road.

The accident was caused when a Super Custom van registration number UAT 812C rammed head on into a Diana truck registration number UAM 684C, forcing it to swerve off the road and overturn.

The occupants of the Super Custom were speeding towards Kampala from Namutumba district to attend a graduation ceremony of one of the daughters of the deceased.

Suuni Kifuko, headmaster of Busiini Primary School in Kibaale sub-county in Namutumba district, died instantly. The others are Dennis Kabala, a student of Kisiki College and Charles Kasiila, a businessman in Kibaale.

Stephen Kibwika, Michael Suuni, Sulah Mukisa and John Tabeya are admitted in Iganga hospital in critical condition.

Dr. Steven Waako, Iganga hospital medical director, says nine people were rushed to the hospital with a range of injuries.

Michael Suuni, one of the survivors nursing a broken clavicle, says trouble started when the driver Charles Kasiila overtook a taxi along Tirinyi road. In the process, he ran into a Diana truck that was travelling towards Tirinyi from Iganga.

Herbert Nuwagaba, Iganga district police commander, blames the accident to over speeding and reckless driving.
