IGG Investigates Misuse of Global Fund in Sembabule District

The Southern Regional Inspector General of Government, has ordered an investigation into the alleged mismanagement of the global fund finances in Sembabule district. Wilson Aryaija says that he has received reports that the sembabule district director of health services Dr Monica Binta, failed to account for 25 million shillings, the district received from global fund to fight HIV/AIDS. In June 2004, Sembabule district received 25 million shillings, which was meant for sensitization and awareness programs on HIV and AIDS. Part of the money was also meant to purchase condoms, education materials, and stationery. Aryaija says that the health officials have failed to produce any form of documents to show how the money was used. The Sembabule District Chief Administrative Officer, Robert Twesigye has confirmed that he received the money on behalf of the district and deposited it on the Medical department account. Twesigye however says that Dr Monica Binta, should be held accountable for the money.
