IGG orders demotion of Masaka Town Clerk

Masaka Town Clerk, Eddie Gwavu Kiwanuka risks demotion for misusing public office. A report by the deputy IGG south western Uganda, indicated that Gwavu endorsed a document which empowered Masaka Municipal Council to collect revenue outside its area of jurisdiction. Masaka council was given way to collect revenue from the Masaka transit-parking yard, located in Kimanya Kyabakuza division along Mbarara road. The report stated that this was in contravention of the local government, which stipulates that the division council collects all the revenue within its division. The Regional Inspector General of Government for Southern Uganda, Mr.Aryaji Wilson said that the town clerk failed to advise the Municipal council in its decision to take over the revenue collection. The town clerk has requested for some time to read the IGG's report, before he can give his defence.
