The Southern Regional Inspector General of Government has ordered an investigation into ghost teachers on Sembabule's district payroll. Wilson Aryaija says he has received reports, that many primary school teachers, who were interdicted during last year's restructuring exercise, were not deleted from the government pay roll. He says that the interdicted teachers have continued to receive salaries on their bank accounts. Teachers implicated in the scam include the former headmaster of Kirebe primary school in Mateete sub-county, Hally Muhumuza and his wife Hanifah Nassiwa of Kayunga primary school. The two were interdicted from government service in 2004, for using forged academic papers to obtain jobs in Sembabule district. Aryaija says that Muhumuza has so far defrauded government of 4.6 million shillings in wrongful salary payments. He has instructed the Sembabule Chief Administrative Officer, Robert Twesigye and the Senior Personnel Officer, Josephine Nakato to take action on all ghost teachers, on the government pay roll.
