Implementation of Education AIDS Workplace Policy Fails due to Ignorance

Lack of sensitization of teachers about the Education Sector HIV and AIDS Workplace Policy is undermining its relevance in Ugandan Schools. The Ministry of Education and Sports released the workplace policy on HIV and AIDS two years ago to protect teachers against abuse and to reduce stigma in the education sector. The policy outlaws discrimination against employees or job applicants on grounds of their HIV status. It says that where an employee with HIV has revealed his or her status, the identity of that person should be kept confidential and teachers, including those living with HIV and AIDS, shall have the legal right to privacy. The policy adds that the Ministry of Education shall arrange for all HIV positive employees
