Moroto Central Prison authorities are investigating circumstances surrounding the death of an inmate in a fight on Friday night. The deceased has been identified as Michael Lodia.
 

He was reportedly beaten to death by a fellow inmate identified as Joseph Lomeri following a disagreement. William Awany, the Officer in Charge Moroto Prisons, says Lomeri thumped Lodoi several times in the chest leading to his death.
 

He says Lomeri will be charged with murder once investigations are complete.  The incident came hardly four hours after Moroto Chief Magistrate's court remanded Dr. Kizza Besigye, the former Forum for Democratic Change presidential candidate to the same prison on treason charges.
 

Richard Aruk Maruk, Mount Moroto Regional Police Commander, says they will conduct an inquest into the death of the inmate. Lodia was transferred to Moroto Central Prison from Kotido government prison for trial for murder.
