The embattled Director of Moroto Regional Referral Hospital Dr Filbert Nyeko has failed to turn up for the handover of the facility to the new care taker.

Nyeko was interdicted on March 30, to pave way for investigations into the reported embezzlement and misappropriation of funds meant for the maintenance of the regional hospital. He is also charged for manipulating the payroll leading to the payment of 11.7 million Shillings over and above his usual pay in the month of February, 2015.

Dr Nyeko is further accused of causing Moroto Hospital a financial loss of 38 million Shillings when he damaged the hospital vehicle registration number UGX 3989M while doing his personal work.

He was interdicted by the Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary Dr Diana Atwine, who also asked for the immediate handover of the facility to the Senior Hospital Administrator Dr Alfred Francis Ogwang. However, a week after his interdiction, Dr Nyeko is yet to handover.

Moroto Resident District Commissioner Peter Ken Lochap says Dr Nyeko has been contacted several times before his number went off. He says that security organs have launched a manhunt for Dr Nyeko, promising to have the senior consultant nabbed for the handover.

"I went to the Hospital twice on Tuesday and Wednesday after making arrangements with Dr Nyeko for the handover but never succeeded", Lochap told URN.

Dr Atwine, the permanent secretary told URN that Dr Nyeko must handover. "He cannot refuse to Handover, if he does, the arm of the law will get him," Dr Atwine said in a text to the URN reporter in Moroto.

At the hospital, the State House Health Monitoring unit is undertaking enquiries over the alleged misappropriation of funds while health workers are also taken up with their normal duties.
