Lubangkene Geoffrey, a murder suspect on remand at Morukatipe government prison in Tororo is among the thousands of candidates sitting for the Uganda Advanced certificate of education examinations that kicked off yesterday across the country.

Lubangkene, 20, is sitting for History, Entrepreneurship, Divinity and computer at Tororo Progressive Academy (TOPA) in Tororo municipality under tight security.

He started his examinations today with History.

The prisoner is a resident of Juba village in the western division of Tororo municipality.

He was arrested, tried and remanded in August this year after he was found with a phone purportedly belonging to a girl who was gang raped and murdered in town mid this year.

As his fellow candidates sat for their first paper of economics on Monday, he was being arraigned before Tororo chief magistrate’s court for mention of his case.

He said his predicament shall not stop him from excelling in the examination while paying gratitude to the school administration for standing with him even through a difficult moment by allowing him to sit for his final examination.

Wanjala John, the school’s head teacher confirmed that the school allowed the student to sit for the exam regardless of predicament.  He said Lubangkene joined the school in first term senior six, registered for the exams before disappearing.
