Jinja Municipality Residents Protest Plans to Erect Telecom Mast

Residents of Kamuli road in Jinja municipality have protested the installation of a mast in the area.


They argue that there are four schools, residential houses, and a hospital and installing a mast in the area is hazardous to their health.

On Friday clashes erupted between the porters and residents clashed resulting in the injury of one person who was rushed to Alshafa hospital for treatment. 

Jamada Waiswa, the village Defense secretary alleges that the landowner Ronald Kirunda never informed the leaders about his intentions to construct a mast.

Regina Akullo, a resident says that they have sought intervention from municipal officials to but they are surprised that, construction of the mast has resumed before receiving a response.

However, Kirunda dismisses the allegations of the residents. He explains that he is a processing an Environment Impact Assessment report to the National Environment Management Authority-NEMA to support the construction of the mast.


"This my land I have full authority over it but am also working on getting the environment impact assessment report from NEMA which will help me proceed with the mast construction without any hindrances," he says.

The Jinja Municipality Deputy Town Clerk Jofram Waidhuba says that he has received complaints from the residents, but refused to divulge more details.
