Walukuba –Masese division in Jinja municipality has embarked on fighting crime in the division through its local councils, after cases of rape, theft and burglary increased in the last four months.

Mohammed Tabo, the Officer in Charge of Walukuba/ Masese police says five cases are reported at the police post every week, a thing that worries the division. He says the criminals come from the islands and after committing crimes run back to the nearby islands in Lake Victoria.

Michael Mugesi, a resident of Zabef village in Walukuba estate is a victim of road side robbers. He says the criminals have been boosted by the poor security lighting in the area, where people who move on foot at night are attacked by criminals and their property or taken.

Musisi Kibugudu, the Walukuba/ Masese division chairman says he has begun sensitizing the people on how to promote security in the division.

He says the security lights will be replaced in areas like Danida, Kibuga Mbaata, Zabef and Masese II, after he made consultations with Jinja municipality officials.
