Boda-Boda cyclists in Kabale municipality have been thrown into confusion over a 30 million shillings donated by President Yoweri Museveni. The money was handed over to the Kabale Motor and bicycle boda-boda associationin 2012 to kick start their savings and credits cooperative organization in fulfillment of a pledge by Museveni. However, some cyclists claim the money has disappeared. Byamukama Tarasis, a cyclist at stage in Kabale town says that they expected their leaders to convene a meeting and consult them on how the money should be used but this didn’t happen.

Tarasis says the leaders have instead kept silent on the money. He says the money should be distributed to cyclists in form of soft loans to enable them set up small projects to boost their income. Alex Byakatonda, another boda boda cyclist says the money is of no use to them. Byakatonda accuses the association leadership of setting conditions and charging high interest rates compared to commercial banks.

Charles Rwaboona, another Boda- Boda Cyclist says that they are not even sure whether the money is still there or not. He says that their association has no constitution adding that, the Money appears to be circulating amongst their leaders.

However, Safari Samuel, the chairperson Kabale Motor and bicycle boda-boda association says most of those complaining about the money are the ones who refused to join the association. He says that they cannot just dish out money to whoever shows up.

Matthew Moses Elayo, the Kabale resident district commissioner says his office will investigate the claims and find a possible solution to the problem.
