Two suspected thieves have been lynched by a mob at Bukinda Trading Center. Zephaniah Buko, the Kabale District Police Commander, says the suspects were attacked by a mob of students from Bukinda Primary Teachers' College who accused them of robbery and rape. He identifies the dead men as Moses Twikirize and Andrew Mubangizi. Officer Buko says the two men had been sharing a room at the Nyabirerema Church of Uganda hostel. He says the students invaded the room and assaulted the suspects, accusing them of conducting a raid last night. Three people have been arrested for questioning to help identify the mob. Buko says the case should have been left for the police to investigate as there was no evidence that either Twikirize or Mubangizi were behind the spate of theft at Bukinda Primary Teachers' College. In Rakai a mob killed a 70-year-old witchdoctor accusing him of being behind numerous mysterious deaths in Nakatoogo village. Paul Ssentale was killed yesterday when he returned to his home following death threats from the residents. Ssentale was accused of using witchcraft to kill off residents who disagreed with him. Andrew Sorowen, the Southern Region Police Commander, said Ssentale was accused of killing three of his neighbors over land disputes before he went into hiding. He said investigations into the mob killing are not succeeding as no single resident has volunteered information to help with the case.
