GISO fined UGX 300,000 for Goat Theft

Benjamin Achol, the Gombola Internal Security Officer in Charge of Kobulubulu Sub County in Kaberamaido district has paid a fine of Shillings 300,000 for the theft of six goats. Achol was fined after pleading guilty for the theft of the goats belonging to Anna Adongo, a resident of at Akwala-Kwala parish in Kobulubulu Sub County.
 
 
According to Adongo, the goats disappeared from her residence two weeks ago. She reported a case at Kaberamaido Central Police Station leading to the arrest of Achol on the orders of Kaberamaido District Police Commander, Ahmed Madri. According to information obtained by URN, Achol is said to have sold three goats to a butcher identified as Samuel Egaru in Kaberamaido town at the cost of Shillings 170,000.
 
 
Achol was held for a few days and released on police bond when he agreed to negotiate with the complainant.  Albert Ejoku, the Kaberamaido District LC V chairperson mediated the negotiation between Acol and his victim. Achol accepted to pay a fine of Shillings 300,000 and replace the six goats he had stolen within the next seven days.




Achol has been very reluctant to explain how the goats got into his custody and why he sold three of them. Jimmy Ebil, the Kaberamaido Resident District Commissioner, says the District Security Committee will convene to decide the fate of the GISO since he has admitted to have stolen the animals.


 
 
He cautions public officials against being involved in practices that compromise their integrity and that of their offices.
