The appointments committee of parliament has finally rejected the presidential appointment for junior land Minister, Idah Nantaba while on the other hand made a u-turn and approved Prof. Tarsis Kabwegyere as minister for gender, labor and social development.
Sources within the committee reveal that the appointment of Kayunga Woman MP, Ida Nantaba was rejected after reports filtered through that Police commissioners sent to verify her academic background in Kayunga were roughed up. Although it is still unclear, another reason advanced to reject her appointment was based on her integrity and morals.
But sources confirm that the legislator has been cleared by Uganda National Examination Board (UNEB) for clearing on the authenticity of her papers. It is also believed that she was disrespectful to Parliament when asked to return another day for vetting. Some of the members said that they could not approve someone to be a minister when she is bad mannered and reports parliamentary issues to president.
The committee made a U-turn when it came to the Minister for Gender, Prof. Kabwegere. Sources in this committee say that the approval came after Kabwegyere made an apology for the statements he made criticizing the domestic relations bill in the 7th Parliament.
The committee had last week rejected him saying he was not fit to hold the Gender ministry since he has been disrespectful to women issues. Besides, his old age did not allow him hold such a docket.
