Senior Nursing Officer Held Over Theft of Drugs

Heph Mutisa Kwesiga, a senior nursing officer at Kanungu Health Center IV is in trouble for illegal possession of government stores. She was picked up by Kanungu police on Wednesday following a tip off by residents.

A search in her home led to the recovery of 22 bottles of ceftriaxone, 10 packets of oxytocin, 2 boxes of children clothes, 14 pairs of surgical gloves, 1 jerry can of liquid soap, 1 digital thermometer, lamp, 3 mattresses, kidney dish and a weighing scale among others.

 
Ely Maate, the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, says they are hunting for the suspect's son, Philemon Kato who is said to have been helping her to steal the items. He says the suspect is being held at Kanungu Police station as investigations are ongoing.
 

Kwesiga declined to comment on the matter. Josephine Katsya, the Kanungu District Chairperson has condemned the theft, saying it is an embarrassment to the profession.
